The playoff-less streak is now a league-leading 12. I think Warriors fans should try something different: they should embrace The Streak. Let’s go for 13. I don’t think we realize how hard it is to miss the playoffs 12 straight times in a league where more than half the teams make the postseason.
I think Chris Mullin is thinking along the same lines. The decision to bring back Mike Montgomery is an excellent move to assure The Streak will continue.
The Dunleavy signing was genius. He gives the team an overpaid, underachiever and a whipping boy for the fans– always a necessity for a bad team.
If they can somehow figure out a way to extend Foyle’s contract, give Pietrus a five-year, $50 million extension and trade Monta Ellis and Andris Biedrins in a deal that involves Jamal Magloire, The Streak should be safe for another three seasons.
Other Warriors thoughts:
- Let the trade rumors begin. First it was KG, now it’s Jermaine O’Neal. If there is anything to the O’Neal rumors, Warriors fans should root for New Jersey in the first round. The earlier the Pacers get knocked out, the more likely they’ll make a big move.
- Mullin said there will be changes. Troy Murphy is the most likely player to be traded. If a superstar like O’Neal or KG are available, it would take much more than Murphy. If I’m Indiana and the Warriors want O’Neal, I want Jason Richardson, Monta Ellis and Ike Diogu or Andris Biedrins.
- If there was a bright spot to the season, it was once again the improvement of Jason Richardson. J-Rich will never be the best player on a good team, but he can be an important piece on a winner. Let’s hope it’s with the Warriors one day.
Around The League:
- Steve Nash has now won back-to-back MVPs? Really? Since 1975-76, every MVP before Nash was undoubtedly one the top three players in the league – and usually they were considered the best. Nash is not in the top five and arguably not in the top 10, yet he’s somehow been voted the most valuable twice. Unbelievable.
- Dallas looks real good this year. The Spurs look beatable. But San Antonio will have home-court in round two, which makes for a great series. I’ll take Dallas in six.
- Lebron is a freak. Get him a great sidekick and he’ll win a championship as he enters his prime. (And no, Larry Hughes is not that guy. He’s a good player, but Magic had Kareem and Worthy, Bird had McHale and Parish and Jordan had Pippen.)
- The Clippers’ success should give Warriors fans hope.
- I just don’t see anyone beating Detroit four out of seven times.
The Fantasy Basketball Challenge:
- I made a challenge on the Warriors’ RealGM forums to join a fantasy hoops league with me, and I actually backed it up with a first-place finish. (Patting myself on the back). Second place went to “moose jams” and third went to “The Anti-Twardzik”. Thanks to those who played.
